The whirlind visit to Argentina!

by Flem2002 - last update: Jan 17, 2007

I met a man on the internet

Sister Rachel shows off the "asado"
That sounds really dodgy, but I was learning Spanish and found an e-mail penfriend who was learning English. Over the course of five years we corresponded in our gradually improving language, neither of us making any secret that we both had partners and families etc. He came to my home town on Nottingham in 2000 with his wife, and in 2005 I was finally ready to return the favour, so I dragged my sister off to his cosy suburban home in Buenos Aires and we had a ball!
Beach bums in Uruguay

Beaches galore!

We spent sometime in Buenos Aires, but then took the ferry to Uruguay and drove east to the beaches around Punta del Este. The sand was lovely and the sea rough and warm. And the view ... well, I'm a woman but I think the blokes would enjoy this one!

Parque de Iguazu

A short flight north of Buenos Aires brings you to the border of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, where the tourists flock in to see the fantastic Iguazu falls (or the Cataratas as they call them in Argentina and Foz de Iguassu in Brazil). The beauty of these powerful waterfalls puts Niagara to shame, and they have been perfectly preserved despite the tourist numbers with no MacDonalds in sight.

I'll be creating a travelogue on the falls in due course.
No Starbucks, no McDonalds .... just nature

Pros:"It's cheap to eat and stay there"
In A Nutshell:"They really do tango in the street!"

Cartoneros leave the place where they "sort" through the garbage as if a cyclone had just past through. They have become a syndicate and there is a profit to be made for a syndicate to operate. Many other countries recycle in a much more efficient manner.
