During the last 6 months of my stay in Europe, after my family had already moved back to the US, I decided to see one of the places that I had always wanted to visit...Egypt. When the AWC in Wiesbaden planned a 10 day trip to Egypt, I was in.
We spent the first 3 days in Cairo. After spending a couple days seeing the different Pyramids and a day at the Egyptian Museum, it was hard to imagine the trip getting much better.
However, the 4 day cruise down Lake Nasser was unbelievable. The peacefulness between stops and and night was amazing. We flew to Aswan, and then took a river boat from Aswan to Abu Simbel, stopping at numerous temples.
The last 3 days involved a bus trip back up to Luxor to see the Valley of the Kings and the Karnak Temple. Again...unbelievable.
Between the sights and the wonderful people of Egypt, this was one trip that exceeded all expectations. It is a place that must be visited by anyone with even a remote interest in history. |
