  • An excellent way to spend the morning and early afternoon after the Madrid nightlife. There are some cafe's to sit and enjoy the day while drinking coffee and watch people strolling through the park. This park was used privately by the Royal Family from 1632 until the 1800's. You can rent row boats to take out into the park's pond.

  • This is a great place to spend the day people watching. There are plenty of cafe's to sit around eating some good Paella and drinking beer while enjoying the day. The square was started in 1617 and has witnessed events from bullfights to the inquisition.

  • This is the ceremonial gateway into Madrid. It was built by Carlos III to improve the looks of eastern Madrid. Until the mid 19th century it marked the easternmost boundary of the city. It is beautiful when seen floodlite in the evening. It is a worthwhile picture within the city.

  • While you are enjoying the beer and Paella in the Plaza, make sure to take notice of the paintings on the buildings in the Plaza. The paintings on the facades are very impressive.

  • The centre of Madrid is a poplular meeting point within the city. It also contains Kilometre Zero, which is considered the centre of Spains road network. It contains a stature of Carlos III in its centre. Puerto del Sol is an excellent starting point for your exploration of Madrid.

  • The Royal Palace was built to impress. The palace was used by the Royal Family until 1931 as a residence. It is well worth a couple hours to stroll through the palace and their is an excellent museum of the Royal Armory connected to the Royal Palace.

  • This cathedral is opposite the Royal Palace. I didn't think there was much worthwhile to see here. It was begun in 1879 and took almost a century to complete. Near the cathedral is an excavation of Madrids midieval city walls.

  • Another relaxing stop following the late nights of Madrid. The Prada contains an excellent variety of both Spanish works, as well as world reknown paintings. It is being renovated in several phases, but is definately a do not miss if you are in Madrid.

  • One of the few Madrid churches inspired with Italina Baroque style. It is worth a stop along your walk though Madrid.

Keep up the good work with your tips. Just 2 things: it's Puerta (not puerto, that means harbor) del Sol and Prado (not Prada) museum, unless they have an exhibition of Prada products ;)

Great Madrid page, it looks like a nice city. I'm hoping to do a weekend trip later in the year.
