    Afternoon tea on the terrace at Reid's is essential. Settle into a wicker armchair and contemplate the cruise ships below whilst . awaiting tea and crustless sandwiches and Maderia cake. If this all sounds a little too staged try the poolside buffet lunch it is good value or you can pop in to the Cocktail bar one evening ( suit and tie requested) What to drink? Why, vintage Madeira. m'dear.

    For an evening meal there is a choice of floating restaurants along the seafront, of which the largest and most covetable is the Vagrant. It was once owned by The Beatles, fortunatley customers dining within its polished wood and tinted glass are spared endless piped renditions of " Let it be "
