There are two airports in Rome , one (Ciampino is very close to the city centre and the other ( Leanardo da vinci or Fiumicino is a good 2 hour ride from the city. If you can , try to fly into Ciampino.

Its advisable to arrive at St Peters square early on the morning of your intended visit to the Vatican otherwise you could be in a queue for hours !
