Welcome to Valdres

Where do I begin...

Every year since I was a little girl I have been visiting this part of our country. My family owns a cabin there, and some of my family lives in Valdres.

How am I going to explain Valders without using clichés? Valdres is almost pure nature and the distances are long. If you prefer the city life, Fagernes is one of the small places to hang out. Valdres is the animals’ country. Horses, cows, ships and goat sheep’s are commonly sight. You'll see a lot of mountain farms. Valdres is not a place; it's more like an experience. .

Valdres is the best places for sport travels. If you like hiking and cycling, this is an Eldorado. Climbing and other water sport and horse riding. You can climb the mountain Skogshorn and the top of Grønsenknippa; these are both nice family trips, among many others. In Vaset, there are a lot of places for horse riding. Valdres is also famous for its excellent trout fishing.

If you want to spend your holiday all by yourself and don't want to be interrupted by anyone, come to Valdres. It's not crowded here . It's quite peaceful.

Valdres is situated between Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. It's on the midway to Bergen. It belongs to Oppland. It consists of the municipalities Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. The main town is Fagernes.
