weather Update July 30 th 20 C it's raining man! Hi, I'm Hilde a 28 year old girl still studying special education at the university of Oslo.I'm a three generation Oslo girl, something that's quite unusual in Oslo. Most people here have emigrated from other cities. Oslo is a multicultural city. every fifth inhabitant is a foreigner. Actually most of the non-norwegian are from other Scandinavian countries. it's not unusual to meet them behind the disk at the local clothes store or you local pub. |

| | the history of Oslo The first settlement in Oslo startet around 1000 years ago and was situated in that area which we nowadays call Gamlebyen (old town.) According to Snorre Sturlason, Harald Hardråde raised a trade area which had it's constitution around 1048. The town was an economical and religious centre with plenty of churches and monasteries and the king fortress Akershus. When the big pest came to Norway there was a period of decline and the city was exposed to many fires.
After the big fire in 1624 the city was rebuilt and was called Christiania until 1924.
Until the 1900 century our most important industry branch was trade. Around 1850 the industry in the city really had it's flourishment Clothes, soaps and paper fabrics were built around the Aker river. The number of inhabitants increased during the industrial time. in 1910 the population decreased and people started moving to the suburb township Aker. in 1948 Oslo and Aker were conjoined. Our Township is now called Oslo og Akershus . And around 1950 new townships arised. |

for almost 20 years Aker Brygge had had an unique position among Oslo's inhabitants and visitors from home and abroad. in 2005 Aker Brygge welcomes even more visitors to even better experiences. On 10th March 40 new shops open in the old engineering workshop building, Verkstedhallene , and on Ist June the neighbouring Kaibygg 1 opens with shops and restaurants, thus making Aker brygge more compleate |
