Getting TO/AROUND: The subway system basically runs north-south and east-west across the city. The streetcars run on tracks with electric lines overhead. You can only see them downtown. The buses provide a link to the subway stations. Generally, the farther away from downtown core, the less frequent the bus service.

Unlike many Asian cities, since Toronto's public transportation system is run by one public agency (the Toronto Transit Commission, or TTC), you only pay one fare for riding the bus, subway and streetcar.

Beginning April 1, 2006 (not kidding!), the adult fare is raised to $2.75 cash, or $2.10 if you purchase tokens or tickets that come in five or ten. There are also one-day, weekly and monthly passes for frequent riders. And family passes as well for the weekends.

Check out their website for route maps and schedule.

    Transportation: Pearson International Airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: The Pearson International Airport is the busiest airport in Canada, handling 26 million passengers in 2002. 50 airlines from all over the world serve the airport.

There are currently 3 terminals, with the new Terminal 1 being the newest. This new terminal is definitely larger, brighter and very modern. The old Terminal 1 and 2 will be demolished in the future.

The best way to get to the airport if you don't drive or can't get a ride from someone is to hire a taxi. The fare is fixed based on zones. It is $39 to the downtown core, for example. There are also bus routes to the airport, but it's really a hassle if you have a large luggage.

Hi Neighbor, Greetings from sunny (go figure) Buffalo. Toronto is one of our favorite places to visit when we need a shot of a truly international city and can't afford to get to Paris or Rome. I'm sure we'll be back before long. Thanks...Tom

Canadian friends all tell me what a great place Toronto is. I do like the look of those lovely parks - and autumn colour is always a drawcard. Nice page - thanks. leyle
