An alligator at the Anhinga Trail - Everglades National Park

Heading to the Everglades from Miami Beach, we passed by many new housing development and farmlands, which were very close to the park's boundary. This is one of the major reasons the Everglades received a low score in the national park rankings in the July/August 2005 issue of the National Geographic Traveler magazine. A park ranger mentioned that the water level at the marsh has been at historical low, due to overdevelopment upstream in Central Florida. Nevertheless, the Everglades still is a birdwatcher's paradise.

That's a shame about the overdevelopment around this amazing park Mimi. I love boardwalks through mangrove swamps. This is one place on my 'must see' list. Cheers, Ann :o)

Great tips, especially about the mosquitos and airboats. It's too bad most people think only of airboats when they think of the Everglades. :( I go often, it's about an hour from where I live.

I've always wanted to visit this park. Maybe next month as I should be in Florida. Very useful tips and great photos, esp. like your tip on the airboats.
