"Thailand - I once called it home" Thailand by mim95

My first trip to Thailand was back in 2004, as I was backpacking across Southeast and East Asia. Like many other travelers, I went to Bangkok, saw the glittery and elegant Grand Palace, took a tuk-tuk ride around the ancient grounds of Ayutthaya, and then headed off to Koh Samui to soak up some sun on the beautiful white sand beach.

I returned to Thailand again a couple of years later, spending nearly two months in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as part of a graduate study fieldwork research. I was a unique experience, staying with a family in a traditional house in a Lahu village. It was amazing to watch the sunrise in the morning. The sky changed clours numerous times in the horizon, and the sun slowly appeared from the mountain ranges in the distance. The silhouette of the hills became more visible, and the mist and fog slowly disappeared as the sky became brighter. This was also the coldest place I've ever been in the country. I had to have 3 blankets on at night to keep warm! After the hard work, I rewarded myself with a week on the beaches of Ko Chang.

Another year went by, and I found myself back in Thailand again. This time in a small town in the south, working at a renowned non-profit tourism social enterprise supporting local communities, organizations, and protecting the environment. It was another unique experience. I helped tourists to get a taste of the local culture by organizing cultural and volunteering trips. Living in Thailand for a little over two years, I definitely enjoyed traveling all over the country whenever I got the chance. I only managed to visit 29 provinces out of 76, so there are still plenty of places for me to explore when I have the opportunity to return to Thailand.

I won't go into details here for every single attraction that I've been to. I'll provide an overview for each province, from my own perspective.
