| HK skyline & the Victoria Harbour |
My first visit to Hong Kong was in Christmas of 2002. It was my first time going back home since moving to Canada with my family many years ago. Then I went back frequently since then.
Hong Kong is known as the land of skyscraper apartments and office buildings. It's not unusal for a person to live on the 40th floor or higher. The newer ones sometimes have 60 or 70 stories tall! The lack of land in the urban area means that many old buildings must give way for the skyscrapers. The harbour is getting smaller too because of the never-ending land reclamation. But not too many travellers have gotten out of the concrete forest to enjoy the countryside, which is easily accessable by bus or ferry.
Hong Kong is probably one of the few large cities that doesn't have any sales tax on goods. There are also lots of great restaurants. Getting around town is extremly convenient, with a highly developed network of subways, buses, and trains. |

| Pros: | "Beautiful skyline and excellent public transit system" | | Cons: | "Air pollution, not enough done to preserve old buildings" |
