Midwest -(b. Sterling IL) born & raised.

The travel bug bit pretty early. My parents took us on many educational trips across the US-east coast for early history, west coast to sample some of that Jackson Hole and Trail Ridge Road spectacular beauty. My first plane trip was a Junior class trip to Washington DC. Followed by many more plane trips. --Well, not so many lately :-( which is why I'm not on here much anymore.-- Have been to mostly European destinations, but also took a two week organized trip to Turkey. That was an eye-opener, especially the inland away from the tourists part of the visit.

In my teens I participated in a 3 month summer foreign exchange trip to Cordoba, Argentina and now here we are. My German (Hamm-Herringen geboren) husband, daughter, and I live near Landshut, about 50mi. NE of Munich.

Haven't been visiting here on a regular basis for about 3 years--oops now four, funny how fast time seems to go when you (pick one:) get older/have kids/live your life--. I keep forgetting how much there is to miss here...more to follow....hopefully soon this time.

You all are so great at sharing your experiences, it is long past time for me to do my part.

I enjoyed your "bad old days" comment, Lisa. As for your dad maybe seeing things a different way, I guess it matters which side of the wall one used to be on. :) I'm coming to Frankfurt for the book show in Oct, looking forward to another German visit.
