Castle for King Ludwig the Second. It stand high on a hill overlooking the flat land to the north. Behind the castle the mountains between Germany and Austria rise boldly to the south.
The ' fairy castle ' built by E Reidel in the mid 19th Century for King Ludwig, is not a happy place. The King did not live long enough to enjoy the magnificent building.
The castke can be visited today, with tours in several languages at set times. In particular the Throne Room and Minstrels' Gallery are worth the visit and there are some terrific views form the windows. |
| | Castle for King Maximillian the Second Yes there are two castles and this one was here many years before the one for King Ludwig.
This one was built in neo-Gothic style in 1832 -1836. So this king did not enjoy his castle very long either.
This castle stands 865 m above the sea and the Schloss Neuschwanstein is 100m higher up the mountain. |

I recall some teenagers started jumping up and down on the bridge, and it was a tad worrisome. Their girlfriends weren't impressed. Pa |
