  • I simply want to add this photo to my VT pages. It is a scene in the S.W part of the Province of Alberta where the Foothills rise to meet the Rocky Mountains very abruptly.

The photo shows a herd of Buffalo just outside the National Park which adjoins the Glacier National Park in Montana. The Joint Park area is also called the International Peace Park.

The Buffalo have since been moved away from the area.

The area is know for the Chinook winds which often blow in the Winter. They are strong and herald an increase in the temperature. They blow from the west and are dry after having risen over the several mountain ranges from the Pacific Coast.

In drying out they are warmer and it is possible for the snow to melt as the teperature can climb 10 or 20 or even 30 C in a matter of minutes.

The Natives call the wind the Snow Eater.

Long time since I've had time to updatepages - too much work and travel getting in the way of VTing. Great to see you've done so much - your pages are quality with excellent photos. I like how we can now add more than 1 photo per tip, well done VT too!
