Places to visit while at Lake Louise

by dabidc - last update: Jun 21, 2007

Visit the Chateau even if you do not stay there.

Chateau and end of Lake from Fairview Viewpoint.
Lake Louise is located in Banff National Park, it is really two small places on the map.

First a lake surrounded by mountains on three sides with a most stupendous hotel at the north end of the Lake.

Secondly it is a collection of hotels, motels, restaurants, shops and a camp ground about 6 kms from the lake and located between the Bow river and the Trans Canada Highway.

The Lake is by far the main attraction in the area and countless buses and cars climb the hill laden with tourists from around the World who then walk or run from the large parking areas to the end of the lake to stand in awe and take photos of the lake and the 6 Glaciers at the south end of the green coloured lake.

Visitors can walk alongside the lake, climb to at least 2 viewpoints, rent a canoe to glide over the green surface, all the while feeling awed by the surroundings.

There is one other amazing attraction to see and this section includes an interior view of the Registration area of the Famous Chateau Lake Louise.
The Lake reflects the Glaciers

Mt Victoria, some of the Glaciers and the Lake.

Yes I thought I had better let you see the view of the Lake.

This is what so many visitors come to see.

The Lake can be dramatic or serene, it all depends on the weather, is the sun shining or are the clouds lingering over the mountains. Is there a mist or do the winds blow the clouds and mist away and the sun brings out the full splendour and majesty of the surroundings.

An entrance foyer fit for a King or Queen.

Your arrival at the Chateau is greeted by the staff who race out to assist you unload the car and mysteriously whisk your luggage from the entrance to your room.

It takes a short while to check in and to find your way to the room and enter and just as you get the feel for the room, a bell man promptly knocks and delivers your baggage.

The room or rooms that will be your home away from home for a few days, is spotlessly clean and meticulously prepared for your arrival.

Should you have a Lake View Room, you immediately gravitate to the window to gaze at the lake and those mountains, it is almost too much to experience.

But for once in your life, take life easy and enjoy your surroundings.

Let Mother Nature astound you with her ever changing light show over the lake surface and those mountains.

Pros:"Louise can be serene or sultry, but always attractive."
Cons:"How can there be negatives when you gaze at Natures best."
In A Nutshell:"I am very fortunate that Lake Louise is under three hours from Calgary."

Loved the photos of the winter scenery. I would just rather visit when it is a bit warmer.

Update.Great new travelogues, David; plus, I just had to review your beautiful, informative pages. My last visit was 2005, but I enjoyed it just as much because it's been a wish destination for me for years. Thanks.
