A site of Awe and Majesty

A Spring Break.
The visit to Zion National Park took place in the Spring of the year.

Zion is a well visited N.P with three main areas attracting visitors. The Zion Canyon scenic drive, the photo shows the open south end of the canyon where the journey begins. Then there is the Zion- Mt Carmel Highway and way at the northwest corner, the Kolob Terrace road.

Access to Zion Canyon and Zion Mt Carmel highway is from St George 46 miles away on Highway 9. Accommodation is available at Springdale just outside the Park.
View of Zion -Mt Carmel road.

The road climbs to the East Entrance.

One section of Highway 9 continues along the south side of the Park and leads to the East Entrance. This road climbs several zig zag bends, goes through a tunnel before reaching the East Entrance. Look for a parking area after the tunnel, there is a walk to the viewpoint above the Great Arch. The view is from this Arch.

View the road from th e top of the Great Arch.

The path to this viewpoint starts at the east end of the tunnel and passes several small cliffs with bright red rocks. There are metal rails for those a little fearful of heights. The view is spectacular.

Make sure the top of the arch doesn't collapse as you stand on top of it.
The Great Arch.

Beautiful photos, David! I am considering a trip to Zion, when I go to Vegas at the end of the month, so your tips are helpful.

Enjoyed reading your Zion tips --- I just realized I have to go back and see at least one waterfall! The colors of the rocks are really awesome, and I have to add my rock on those "mementos" on the cliff (looks dangerous though).... Norman :)
