What will the 3 days bring, cloud, sun or rain? | Light on the Matterhorn and cloud profile. |
Day 1, a combination of Sunday evening and all day Monday.
I am not about to say that I crossed the Atlantic solely to visit Zermatt and to see the Matterhorn up front and personally, no I did visit many other places.
Those places may convey a little or a lot depending on where you live and where you have travelled. On this trip those places were Turgi, near Zurich, Zermatt, Chamonix, Montreux, Geneva, then to Hexham in England and Glasgow in Scotland before returning home to Calgary.
My visit to Switzerland was prompted by an invitation to stay in Turgi, to meet and have a meal with rebibi, near Zurich and the plan to meet Federic another Vter in Geneva.
The final score being two out of three which was pretty good. One minor negative, none of the photos of that dabidc/rebibi meeting came out worth a darn, so we will just have to repeat the process, but I will be the host next time around.
But back to Zermatt, the arrival was Sunday afternoon, the Matterhorn shrouded in cloud, maybe a foreboding,
Later in the evening a break in the cloud and the chance to take the photo shown.
Ah, I look forward to Monday, possibly with sunshine all over the valley!!!!!. |
| A low cloud day, not a play in the sunshine day. |
| | This is day 2, a visit to Sunegga Paradise. The morning was again cloudy with a few minor breaks in the low cloud, was it going to clear or.....
No good waiting, must do something in the hope the sun does shine.
So up to Sunnegga, not far to go, and thus not a great expense if the cloud stays low. As well if the sun comes out still a good location for those Matterhorn views. |
| Glaciers all over the horizon and folks in awe. |
| | Day 3, yes a great day is promised and it happens. I will deliberately tease you the VTtraveller, force you you to wait for the choice of great views of the Matterhorn. Some are mundane, some are close ups, not often seen, some are almost magical, or so I say.
( All my own work, please ask if you wish to use any)
The day was superb, the sun shone, the cloud cleared and then the there was gradual build up of cloud around the mountains then a clearing and finally a band of cloud hung around the peak.
Stay with me and enjoy the production from the mountain at the end of the valley. |

| Pros: | "Weather allowed great views, interesting hikes up and down, great hotel and hospitality." | | Cons: | "Off season less crowded. Meals pricey, watch out for electric vehicles." | | In A Nutshell: | "Patience pays off in finding a sunny day on the Gornergrat." |
