Hidden away on the east side of Glacier National Park in the N.W corner of Montana is a hotel that dates back to the early part of the 1900's. Many Glacier Hotel dates from the times when the Railroad Companies were building railroads to the west and several hotels were built to attract tourists to the Rocky Mountains, in particular to Glacier National Park.
It is of timber construction and has a massive open area inside the hotel. This lobby area is a great meeting area and on some summer evenings the staff entertain the guests, who either sit around the open area or line the balconies to the rooms on the second and third floors.
The open area or lobby has massive supports of trees felled in the area and is a magnificent area for guests and for such entertainment.
The objective of the visit is to use the hotel as a base for a hike to the Glaciers which are almost hidden in the photo but the general area is above the Swifcurrent Lake in front of the hotel and into the valley in the centre.
- Pros:A Sate with great natural beauty.
- Cons:Far from the big urban centres.
- In a nutshell:A great place to visit from Alberta.

Amazing photos, last time I was in Glacier was a few years ago, end of June, raining, almost snowing, and sooo foggy we could have been anywhere :(
The mountains look just stunning, David. You have some beautiful photos, how thrilling to walk the same path as used by bears! (~_~)
