Beauty in a small country

The statue of the climbers at Ribcev Laz.
I first visited Slovenia on a day visit from Villach in Austria, we stopped at Kranska Gora for a meal and also drove past the Planica ski jumping facility. The journey was by car and the road was a little used way over the mountains from Villach.

The little used road did produce a wait as we returned though the Customs and Immigration at the border.

I decided to make a return visit one day soon.

The opportunity came one year later after I had met Tomi through the internet. I was met in Ljubljana after a train journey again from Villach. Tomi wisked me away to his home town of Slovenske Konjice where I was welcomed by his family, introduced to many relatives and friends and made welcome Slovenian style.

Over the next 4 days I was driven around the area close to Slovenske Konjice, including Logarska Dolina, Ptuj, Maribor and Rogla. I had the pleasure of staying in a cabin on Rogla. I ate well and for most of the journeys Tomi had conned his father into using the family car, on the day this car was unavailable we travelled by Yugo and had the benefit of air conditioning by simply opening the windows.

There is more, for on the final day they drove me to Bled by way of Skofia Loka and then the hotel Krim in Bled. This traveller was very appreciative of the friendship and guidance from a Slovenia born guide. In the time since, Tomi moved to Canada and then to the USA and is now married to Jennifer. They have a boy Luka to look after and love. Thank you Tomi and family.

Bled was a dream location, easy to walk around and take photos and to just take in the ambiance, especially after the tourists had gone home. Memorable moments icluded the gondola ride with Blaz as the boatman or is it gondolier, the special cream cakes at the Park cafe (I believe)

Slovenia is my dream destination, and your tips are so enticing. You have places that I have not seen on other VT member's sites. Just beautiful with some fun insights and outstanding views.

Wow, every one of your photos has some sort of stunning view! That's the way to see Slovenia - a personal guide in the sunshine after the tourists leave! I had to laugh at your castle 'welcome' sign!
