Everywhere you go, you won't be far from a canal in Amsterdam. They are not only beautiful and romantic, but also very practical means of transport for goods and people. The canals are also homesteads for thousands of people who live on houseboats. Houseboats are very trendy and can be seen on most canals in Amsterdam. Some are available for rent, however they have become very expensive due to their popularity. Canals required bridges, and there are hundreds of them in Amsterdam. It is nice to stop at bridges at night when they are lit up and teh reflection in the water is wonderful. The best introduction and feel of the city is an hour long canal tour by boat. SINGEL, the inner canal was once the city's fortified boundry. Look at the house no. 7 - it is the narrowest house in Amsterdam.

The main attraction is the inviting red glow of large windows where almost naked women wait for their customers. The range of women displaying is enormous - from child-lookalike women to old grannys of all races - Black, Asian, Latin, European and figures. Don't even try to take photos, you will get in bigggg trouble. The "hoertjes" (prostitutes) are legal and regulated by the government in Amsterdam, ensuring that they have access to medical care.
