Not a bad place to live, except for the cold

Chicago has been my home most of my life, with the exception of living in Denmark, Copenhagen when I was a small child (I did learn to speak the language fluently then, but now all is forgotten). Chicago's a beautiful city with lots to do--beautiful parks, the lakefront, historic architecture, and good music. However, the cold is not something to take lightly! If you happen to be in the windy city in the winter, you'll understand. The wind whips through anything and gets right to your bones. Chicagoans are a pretty hearty sort and manage to bear with it, nonetheless.

Restaurants--Take a break from meat!

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am a vegan. I recently went from vegetarian (15 years) to vegan (1 year), and am very happy about that. If you are a meat eater, and either live in Chicago or are visiting Chicago, please be brave and try one of these suggestions. The food is very good at these places, and I would like to share them with you!
First of all, Blind Faith in Evanston is very good. They offer things like fajitas that are made with wheat protein that is actually healthier for you than meat, so try it, please. They also offer pizzas, barbecue sandwich, tostadas, great soups, salads, yummy cupcakes, cakes, cookies.
Second, if you don't want to drive the 40 min. north of Chicago to Evanston, try these favorites:

All these places are pretty casual and very good. Also, if you are looking for great Indian food, venture to Devon Ave. for all kinds of restaurants, sari shopping, Indian bakeries, grocery stores, etc. But my favorite restaurant there is called Hemas Kitchen, and it is just off Devon Ave.

Happy Birthday. I visited Chicago in Feb 2003 and would love to come back at a warmer time...great city.
