The white of the Alps

The Cervino from the Swiss border
The Cervino is a great mountain were the history of climbing started in 1800 century.
The history of these mountains is tied to the difficulties of the life, to the love for this strong nature and the wants to improve the own life. The men of the valley warked with goats and cheese, but they tried the find the gold in the Cervino.
When the gold became too much little, they try to transform their acquaintances of the mountain in a new job, the mountain guides. In fact the Italian and foreign nobility, the riches loved to pass long periods between these mountains making oneself to accompany in dengerouse climbs, nearly until the top of the Cervino.
The Cervino
In the 60 the winter sport becomes more fashoned and in the 7o Cervinia became to appear...in fact before the modern winter sport Cervina didn't exist....the Agnelli family ( Fiat owner) loved to spend time there so all the jet set came there....Cervinia is near to Tourin, easy to reach, there is snow in summer too on the Plateau Rosà....so Cervina grow up with howfull building in the middle of the nature! and it's still like that......
In Cervinia there is always snow because it is much cold, he is normal to ski with 25 degrees under zero... so this year in Easter I immegined to find a few snow and rather cold... instead the time it was magnificent and all the nights it snowed, wonderful soft and gorgeouse snow.... For my tastes the tracks of Cervinia are too much easy: in order to allow all the tracks to use of every skier, the traks have benn transformed in freeway and for a discreet skier it becomes boring. The slops on the Swiss border are much more funny: u can by an international ski pass and go from Cervinia to Zermatt ( Swiss) and return in one day.
HAve a look on my Zermatt page ( is under construction now)

We stayed in Valtournenche and loved it. Didn't try the fonduta alla valdostana but every dish we ate had melted fontina in it. This is one of the most beautiful region in Italy, I think. Thank you for sharing.
