Montegrotto....RELAX!

by ludogatto - last update: Nov 12, 2005

This town was called San Pietro Montagnon until 1934, the actual name is due to the latin name Mons Aegrotorum, that is hill of the illness. Montegrotto is in the Regional Park of Terme Euganee thet cover 18.000 square hectars of hills and wood, with 15 villages.
These hills of volcanic origin have a big variety of vegetation and animals and the palce is perfect to spend some day eyojing the nature, not so far from Padova and Venice and with one of the best thermal centers in Italy.
The thermal water start in the subsoil, in the foothills of the Alps and during the journey is enriched with particularly beneficial mineral (including sodium potassium magnesium and iodine ) and it is heated so that it reaches the surface at a temperature of 87° C.
Here you can do a lot of thermal treatment, like swimming or walking in the pools where the water is cooled to 35/40 degree C. Other treatments offered by the thermal baths are the hydromassages, massotherapy, hydrokinesitherapy or u can do treatment with the special mudT perfect in the treatment of various osteoarticular pathologies.
This is the perfect place to relax your body ond your soul, in summer like in winter too.
The therme are only in the Big Hotel, but u can stay in B&B and enter in the therme paying a ticket. Some hotels I don't like cause they haven't charm, they have luxury accomodations but without atmosphere....each time I go there I prefer to spend my time in my preferd palce, Hotel Terme Preistoriche, the garden with the outdoor pools is gorgeouse in summer and inside u can swimm in the indoor one near the firepalce. (see my hotel tip).
Montegrotto presents the Roman excavations where one can visit the main archeological area in tyhe Euganean Hills with baths and channels that date back to Republican and Augustan times. Nearby there is the very interesting House of Butterflies, which hosts about 500 multicoloured specimens from all continents. Montegrotto hosts also the fairywood: a mythological garden that reminds the ancient legends about druids fairies and gnomes coming from Celtic and Italic culture.
From Montegrotto you can enjoy the beauty of the Colli Euganei Park or do some excusions to Venice, Chioggia, the venetian villas, Padova, Arquà Petrarca, the catle of Monselice, Este, Montagnana or spend a day at the seeside like Jesolo, Caorle.

I too would like to do the wine & flavour touring here. The waters sound excellent too. You must have a look at my Moree tips for hot spa water in Australia (not very common here at all). Ciao la amica mia.
