Warm Romagna mia!

by ludogatto - last update: Aug 11, 2005

Santarcangelo di Romagna, nine kilometers from Rimini, 5 steps from the sea, is a rich place of fascination, mystery, traditions and evocative scene u can find at each corner.

The town offers a lot, from remarkable monuments to the numerous moments of entertainement and amusement, like the not to loose "Santarcangelo of the theatres", the summery appointment of international reputation dedicated to the theatre, music and the dance.

This town is the native land of numerous actors and scriptwriters of the cinema and Italian theatre, from Tonino Guerra, the scriptwriter of director Fellini (in the town there is a devised and designed restaurant from them), people are cordial and walking for the roads the evening of summer it is easy to stop to speak with them seated on the steps of their houses.

The historical nucleus of the city is divided in two parts, one medieval, the other of ‘700. The medieval print is clearly visible in "the high" part that erge over the Giove Mount, center of the one hundred tufacee coves. The ancient medieval village, encircled from one encircled building rebuilded in the 1400's from Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, is characterized from a reticulum of narrow lanes and alleys that, climb after climb, lead backwards to a travel in the time, between truth and imagination. Apex of this travel, is the solemn Rocca Malatestiana, pompous theatre of bloody battles but also of tragedies lovings, that one of Paul and Francesca as an example, like the legend it wants. If u reach Sant’ARcangelo from Via Emilia from rimoni the first monument u can see is the Arco Trionfale in Ganganelli Public square, in order then to meet in the historical center the Church Colleggiata, the Tower of the Clock, plus famous like "Great bell", to testimony of the lay symbol of the city. The Pieve di San Michele Archangel is instead one of the more ancient Romanesque churches where the air of Franciscan spirituality is still breathed.

But Santarcangelo is also the botteghe, the old fish market and the presence of a place of the memory, that is a free exibhition of old photos of Sant'Arcangelo ( see Local custom)
You have to discover Sant'Arcangelo, in the day or night, to apreciate this this small 'bomboniera'.

Santarcangelo is a country to man measure where the art, the soria and want it of the good living join in a visual harmony that donates splendid feelings.
