Fountain in the Hauptmarkt, Close to the Palace

Gotha was at one stage described as the wealthest and most beautiful city in Thuringia. Its star rose during the 17th century when the Duke Ernst built the Schloss Friedenstein and gardens. Though it made not be as prominent as it once was, it still is an attractive town.

A town with lovely architecture! I love the Rathaus and the Orangerie and buildings in your travelogues. We often had Bratwurst for lunch when in Germany.

Good that you took the opportunity to have a look around Gotha and take some pictures. I've been there twice on business, but I never really saw very much and haven't made a VT page on Gotha, just one Off the Beaten Path tip on my Eisenach page.
