This is a picture of the Palace and old town before its destruction in WW2.

Whilst wondering around the ruins of the former palace I met a German couple who were on a cycling holiday. They had left their car with a son in Berlin and had cycled to Kostrzyn with the intention of heading to the Baltic Coast before returning to Berlin. Its not so unusual seeing people on cycling holidays in Germany. But they are few and far between in the UK mainly because of the narrow and dangerous roads.

    Perhaps the extra charge is for the part of the journey on the Polish territory?
