The small fortress and the town of Terezin (Theresienstadt), were just an out of the way places until they were made notorious by the Nazis. |
| Inside the Small Fortress |
| | Small Fortress The Small Fortress was used by the Gestapo from June 1940 to torture and murder their prisoners. |
| Another part of the Town Ghetto |
| | Terezin Ghetto The small town was used as a ghetto/concentration camp and was originally planned as a reception camp for jews on route to other camps. It became overcrowded with 60,000 people where 7,000 had lived and death became common place. The ghetto served 3 purposes, transit, decimation and propaganda. |

evaanna Fri Jul 31, 2009 11:52 UTC It's amazing how convincing the Nazis were in their deception, so that the world knew little about the concentration camps. Interesting information and excellent pictures. Very good updates. | volopolo Mon Jun 9, 2008 12:36 UTC Nice page | nicolaitan Wed Sep 27, 2006 18:10 UTC very nice photographic exhibit of Terezin (we were there 2 weeks ago). | bugalugs Sun Apr 2, 2006 21:49 UTC This is so sad, but we must not forget. |
