The small fortress and the town of Terezin (Theresienstadt), were just an out of the way places until they were made notorious by the Nazis.
The Small Fortress was used by the Gestapo from June 1940 to torture and murder their prisoners.
The small town was used as a ghetto/concentration camp and was originally planned as a reception camp for jews on route to other camps. It became overcrowded with 60,000 people where 7,000 had lived and death became common place. The ghetto served 3 purposes, transit, decimation and propaganda.
- In a nutshell:Horror wherever the Nazis went.

This was a heart wrenching page to read, just so sad, especially reading about the set up in the park for the Red Cross to see.
Our short trip through the country wants me to return and see more. Your visit sounds wonderful
I once saw the powerful anti-Nazi opera “The Emperor of Atlantis” by Viktor Ullmann, which he wrote in Terezin before he was sent to Auschwitz. The emperor in this opera is so brutal that even Death goes on strike and refuses to let anyone die.
It's amazing how convincing the Nazis were in their deception, so that the world knew little about the concentration camps. Interesting information and excellent pictures. Very good updates.
Nice page
very nice photographic exhibit of Terezin (we were there 2 weeks ago).
This is so sad, but we must not forget.
an interesting story about this sad place !
