Rudolstadt was first mentioned in 776AD. The Heidecksburgh Castle which stands on a hill 60m above the town was started in the 13th century. Though it has been altered over the years its present look dates from 1735. Besides its castle Rudolstadt is also known for its annual folk festival, held on the first weekend in July each year. It is the largest of its kind in Germany and lasts for 3 days. |
