Sassnitz was the first seaside resort on the Island of Rugen and has the longest breakwater in Europe. It has a smart pedestrian area of cafes and restaurants close to the sea front. There are fine sand beaches and for a change of scenery there is the nearby national park and fine white cliffs. Sassnitz has a working port of fishing boats that support the local fishing industry and ferries. |
