"Vienna" a Vienna Travel Page by alancollins

My visit to Vienna was slightly different in as much that I was staying in Bratislava and decided to take advantage of these 2 close capital cities. I went by train and on the Slovakia side of the border there was the unfriendly, non smiling security staff. 2 guys with dreadlocks had the third degree and were the only persons to have their passports scanned. On the Austrian side of the border the exact opposite politeness and smiles.
On the journey back, on the second day, I caught a different train that went to another station in the Bratislava suburbs. I thought as I had been checked on the train I could walk out of the station without realising there was another queue for the usual passport checks. Lots of shouting and I realised the problem and joined the back of the queue. Went I got to the kiosk instead of the usual glance at the passport it was carefully examined to make sure it wasn’t forged, and then it was scanned and lastly the surly look from the official. I was bemused by all this and don’t want to labourer the point but it would have made far more sense going in the opposite direction, rather than trying to gain entry into Slovakia via a train from Vienna.
