Stow on the Wold

Though Stow on the Wold is only 23 miles from where I live and I have driven through the town to reach the M5 a number of times I have never stopped before to look around.

Stow on the Wold

Stow on the Wold stands exposed on a 800 feet high hill at a junction of seven major roads, including the Roman Fosse Way

Stow on the Wold

At the height of the Cotswold wool industry the town was famous for its huge annual fairs where as many as 20,000 sheep were sold at one time.

It's amazing that in the old days as many as 20,000 sheep were sold there at one time. I hate to think of the mess they left behind!
