Name of Shop: KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens)
This is the Berlin equivalent of Harrods in London and the largest department store in Western Europe. I read in a guide book to try coffee and cake in this department store. Being someone with a sweet tooth I was not disappointed, but the problem is, you’re spoilt for choice with so much on offer. The staff are extremely polite and there was no rush. Suitably refreshed it was time have a look around the shop. For those with money to spare and in urgent need of retail therapy this could be place to invest your hard the earned cash, or you could just window shop.

Name of Shop: Alexa
The Alexa Shopping Centre opened its doors on the 12th September 2007. It contains 175 shops which mainly sell clothes, though it does have a huge electrical shop which is spread out over 4 floors and there is also a food court. The outside has been described as ugly though the inside looks light and airy.

Name of Shop: Humana
Most of the Charity Shops that you find in the UK are small retail outlets that follow a similar pattern. During a wet afternoon I decided to give the Humana Shop at Alexanderplatz a try. The shop is huge in comparison to UK Charity shops and is more like a department store. The largest amount of goods on sale is women’s clothing. They are all carefully laid out for inspection on rails with plenty of room to move about. So if you want to kill some time and you like looking in charity shops give one of these shops a try, there is a dozen around Berlin. The shop is 1300 square metres in size with 25,000 items available for sale.

Name of Shop: Europa Centre
The Europa Centre was completed in 1965, part of it consists of a 22 story tower block, but the place to head for is the 90,000 square metre shopping complex. Outside the main entrance is a popular meeting place which is called the water ball and is a hemispherical granite fountain. Inside the Europa Centre is a 13 metre green liquid clock spread over 3 floors called The Clock of Flowing Time. It has 12 larger balls, which represent each hour and 30 smaller balls which represent every 2 minutes. It all re-starts at 1am & 1pm when the liquid empties except for 1 ball. Another feature in the centre is the Lotus Fountain which is located outside the Tiffany Café. 2 of the more unusual stores are a games workshop with a large window display and a shop selling samuri swords and knives.
