For those that are not sure about coming here, because of the Danger myth, lets say that as many other main cities, it has dangers, but the use of common sense will keep you safe, and it's really worth a visit.
In México city you'll find poverty, people in the streets with improvisate business, selling food or crafts, people in the stop lights begging for money or selling stuff, and the traffic is hell!!!. But, after all the bad, I found beautiful treasures, the history, the arquitecture, the culture, the native crafts, the beautiful traditions, the mexican natural landscapes. This is wonderful city to discover.

| | A Magnificent City
Few cities can match Mexico City for historic grandeur, Its tumultuous past encompasses every phase of Mexican history, with a colorful and compelling mosaic of Pre-Columbian, European colonial, and modern eras.
According to the legend, a group of Mexican indians witnessed the fulfillment of a prophecy by their god Huitzilopochtli: on a small island an eagle appeared devouring a serpent while standing on a prickly pear rooted in a rock. It was there where the great City of Mexico-Tenochtitlan was founded in 1325. It took the Mexicas less than 200 years to build the large urban complex that seemed to the Spaniards one of the wonders of the world.
The Spaniards conquers, led by Hernan Cortez, ran into many difficulties to conquer Mexico (Tenichtitlan) Finally, in 1521, after a heroic and bloody defense, the city surrendered. By 1637, almost all the Mexica buildings had been rebuilt, echoing the Renaissance and Baroque styles. Later, French influence came into the Spanish colonies and the baroque forms were replaced by the Neo-Classical style imposed by the end of the 18th century. The Independence war put an end to the French influence.

The latest "to do" in Mexico City There's a lot of places to visit while in Mexico city, but at the moment this is the "new" best thing to do in my personal opinion:
-Leonora Carrington in Mexico City (Temporal exhibition)
There's a very interesting exhibition of the artist art-work in one the most famous avenues of Mexico city. If you're lucky enought to visit Mexico city before October 31, 2008 this is something you should visit. The Outdoor and Free exposition is located at the famous Ave. Reforma in front of the Chapultepec park, between The museum of Art and the Antropology museum. The Bronce Sculptures where made by Leonora Carrington Between 1994-2007, there's also an exhibition of photos of the artist and her family and some iluminated panels with paintings.
Leonora Carrington is one of my favorite artists, one of the biggest Surrealist artist and the most important alive.
-Remedios Varo
The museum of contemporary art opened recently a room with the paintings of Remedios Varo, well at least those that they can legally exhibit, is a shame that a big part of the artist work is still hidden in some dark room in the museum, because of the legal battle for the paintings.
