Harbor Cruises / Ferry / Other Tours: Whale Watching
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a "must do" activity. Oceanic Society Expeditions offer trips on the 56ft Superfish from the SF Yacht Harbor, looking for whales, seals, sealions, birds. We were lucky to see a gray whale in the bay not far from Angel Island. Then we went under the bridge & out into the ocean.

You'll need to wrap up because of the wind & wear lots of sun protection. Our guide was excellent & very knowledgable.

Reservations via the website. The children voted this the highlight of our trip.

Day Trips: California Marine Mammal Center
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a rescue centre for seals & sealions, most of whom are orphaned or abandoned. The aim is to get them back into the wild as soon as they are fit & healthy. You can watch them swimming or basking, & learning to catch fish.

The centre is a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, on the Marin Headlands. You take the exit immediately after the crossing & then turn under the highway.

Day Trips: Mount Tamalpais State Park
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is a terrific place to get good views of the city, the bay, the ocean, & the pacific coastline, on a clear day. There's fairly easy walking, and interesting flora & fauna.

North of the Goden Gate Bridge, then follow Hwy 1 & take the signs.

Hey, looks like you really did venture out beyond the usual tourist scene. Well done! Impressed that you made it to the Outlet Mall. Not that it's any great shakes. But you definitely hit the local spots. :-)
