Our Stopover in Calgary

Calgary from the East
Calgary was the second point on our 2 week tour of Canada. Originally we had planned to go straight to Banff from Toronto, but decided to stop over in Calgary for a couple of nights to go to the World Famous Calgary Stampede. Turned out to be a great decision!

We arrived on Thursday evening, dumped everything in our B&B room and went a walk around the streets to see what was what.

Found an excellent little bar just down from the B&B so we stopped in for a couple of bottles of Canadian.

The Calgary Stampede

We wakened on the Friday morning to what sounded like a very busy street outside. I had a look out the window and could see the streets were already filling up with people in cowboy hats, chaps and Cowboy boots ... the first day of the stampede day was here!

We had a brilliant day. First watching the opening parade then walking along 16th Avenue to the stampede grounds in the East of the town.

The whole event was excellent and highly recommended to anyone visiting or passing the area at that time of year.
All in all Calgary seemed like an OK place. We were only there for 2 nights and one full day, all of which were focused on us going to the Stampede.

At first glance on the way from the Airport to the B&B Calgary didn't look like the safest place to be in the late evening, but after going out a walk and seeing it during the day our opinions changed.

There is plenty to do, but if you can make it to the stampede I would recommend you go.

Pros:"Excellent Stampede."
Cons:"Only there 2 nights so don't really have any."
In A Nutshell:"Cowboy world, excellent!"
