Getting TO/AROUND: We used the Rome Metro system quite a few times. It is one of the best Metro systems I have used. All the trains are covered from top to bottom in Graffiti, which is not to appealing, but other than that, they seemed perfectly safe. The Metro prices are excellent. 4 Euros will get you a day pass which lasts until midnight on the day of purchase and can be used an unlimited amount of times in that period. 1 Euro will get you a 75 minute ticket. This ticket will take you anywhere, as long as you have used it within 75 minutes of purchase. We were near the Manzoni Metro Station. You generally find that most sites are within no more than a 10-15 minutes walk from the nearest Metro station. For those of you whishing to visit the Vatican, the stop you need is Ottaviano on Line A. From here, the Vatican is a 5 minute walk south. Do note though, that like every other major city, Romes Metro System gets very busy around rush hour!

Getting TO/AROUND: This tip is not so much about what mode of transport you should use to get around Rome, but more to advise you to walk! Not because there is anything wrong with traveling any other way, but because you will see so much more. Most of which will be missed if you always get a train or taxi. There are little pockets amongst the back streets that have beautiful fountains and monuments in them. Historical buildings can be found in the strangest of places............some of which will be missed unless you do a bit of walking. It is not a far walk. Rome centre is not as big as say Paris or London. We walked from our hotel in the South East of the City to the Vatican in the North West and it takes maybe an hour.....if that. Obviously we took a lot longer because we stopped in at some other sites on the way. If you can handle a few hours of walking then definetly walk! You will have a great time!

Getting TO/AROUND: For all of you travelling to Rome by air, getting to and from Fiumicino airport (also known as the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport) is simple. There is a train that travels direct (without stopping) to Termini Station, which is the connecting point for most trains, but also for both the Metro Lines - Line A and Line B. If you are going from the centre out to the airport, you will find Termini on any Metro map.....it is very easy to find. We used a taxi to get from the airport into rome, but used the train on the way home. It did seem a little expensive, but when you consider your other options i.e. Taxi, Bike or walk, i guess it's not to bad really. A one way ticket from Termini to Fiumicino cost 9 Euros and 50 Cents each, a total of 19 Euros. The trains are comfy enough, and the plus point is that you get to see the outskirts of Rome, which you might not otherwise have seen.
