Rome in a Weekend

by Webboy - last update: Jan 28, 2004

Squeezing Rome into 3 days

The great Vatican City
We had limited time and budget, but really wanted to go and visit Rome. So we took a long weekend and jumped on a Plane!

It was an excellent weekend! Well advised to everyone who has a few days spare and a couple of hundred £'s budget.

We did so much in our 3 days in the City, but even still, we know we probably didn't even cover a quarter of what there is to see and take in.

The only advice i would give is that if you try to do rome in 3 days as we did, you might be best doing it Mon - Wed, or any other week day combination. We found that most things close at lunch time on a Sunday, if they are opened at all, meaning you really have to cram as much as possible into the Saturday.
The Coliseum from the East

The first day of site seeing (Saturday)

On the Saturday, we walked to the Coliseum from hour hotel, then jumped on the Metro and headed for the Vatican City. While there, we went into the Basilica di San Pietro, then climbed St Peters dome......all 490 steps up and 490 back down again! Ouch! But very much worth it!

We then headed over to the Trevi fountains, and finished off the day with a relaxing meal.
Vittorio Emanuele Monument,

The second day of site seeing (Sunday)

The Sunday saw us up early and heading to the Roman Forums for a couple of hours. After the forums we just walked in the general direction of the Vatican, stopping off at the the Emanuele Monument, the Pantheon and the River Tiber to name but a few places!

Most of the places we visited are listed within my "Things to see and do" section.

If you happen to visit rome.....i hope you enjoy it as much as i did!!!

Pros:"Stunning Architecture, lots of History"
Cons:"Lots of Graffiti, and the drivers are wild!"
In A Nutshell:"Recomended to everyone who has a few days spare and a couple of hundred £'s budget."

A really informative page about Rome. We missed out last year because our flight got cancelled... But it's high on the wish list.
