Here in Tehachapi is the World Famous Tehachapi Loop, i.e the train that goes under/over itself !!
This is because the incline is too steep to be conquered by conventional means, so an engineering genius named William Hood solved the problem.
The Tehachapi Loop is 3,799 feet long with a diameter of about 1,200 feet, and remains one of the seven wonders of the railway world,.
Located 7 miles west of Old Tehachapi on the old stagecoach route, now known as Woodford-Tehachapi Road, the Loop, operated jointly by the Union Pacific and Santa Fe Railroads, is popular for train buffs, sightseers and photographers.
Park off-road at the historical markers on the W-T road for an overview of the entire loop.
We were travelling on a tour coach, but viewed a train doing the loop, so our timing was perfect. No chance for photo's though.

I was just in Tehachipi and took photos of track of the Tehachapi Loop. Most of the restaurants in Tehachipi seemed warm and homey. ;_)
People come from all over to see the Loop. Glad you got to see it! Yes, a wonderful place to eat at Kelcy's.:-))
