Did I leave my heart ?

by joanj - last update: Jan 19, 2005

Yes I did !

Golden Gate Bridge
Have visited 3/4 times, and still love the place.
The coach driver who took us on our tour in l998, stopped at the top of the hill that Steve McQueen roared down in the film Bullit, waited until it was clear, and away we went. Awesome , just like a roller coaster.
Still love going to Pier 39, going on the trolly car, Muni , taking so many pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. Highlight of my first trip there was to go to a restaurant at the top of one of the top hotels the Fairmont, Knob Hill, and dine looking at the mist rolling in under the Bridge.
Ladies ; - it was the washrooms with the gold around everywhere that made me do double takes !!

This is my favourite photo I took of the Bridge.

Some info about the Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is the most photographed man-made structure in the world. The paint colour is International Orange. It was opened in 1937 and has a clear span of 4200 ft. The towers are 746 ft tall and the roadway is 220 ft above the water. Main cables are 36.5 inches in diameter. The roadway is designed to sway 27ft. at mid-span. A sidewalk lets pedestrians travel the 1.7 mile length of the bridge (5 a.m. - 9 p.m. ) Nearly 45 million vehicles traverse the span annually. On the Golden Gate's 50th birthday, May 24th l987, 200,000 people crowded onto the roadway causing it to drop 10 ft.

There are so many places to visit, and wondrous sights to see in this city.

Lombard Street

Crookedest Street

That is what they call Lombard Street.

It is crazy to drive down here. There are steps on the right of this picture that you can walk down, past houses , flower gardens etc. Going down is the easy part, walking up all those steps is obviously the hardest part.

The view from the top of Lombard Street is fantastic on a clear day, as this picture shows.
