Desert Scene

This picture was taken when our sightseeing tour of the Palm Springs area stopped for all of 5 minutes for us to walk through the little park. I cannot even remember the name of it, it was all so hurried. All I know is that Frank Sinatra gives a taped explanation of the site when you press a button on a log of wood - Clever eh!
(I expect I will be told the little parks name by someone - hope so)
update:-The park is the "Michael S. Wolfson Park" situated in the city of Rancho Mirage at 70-000 Frank Sinatra Drive.

Thankyou member RanchoMirageChamber for the website below, and for clearing up the mystery of the park information.

This to me sums up this area, magnificent backdrop, a very old cactus, and as you can see, - sun,.

You will see references to the Agua Caliente Band of Indians elsewhere and I would like to write here an extract from the leaflet from the museum (see tips)

Five hundred years ago the ancestors of the Agua Caliente occupied an area of about 2400 sq. miles in the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains. Archeologists believe the Cahuilla Indians have lived in this area for about 3000 years.
The Cahuilla Indian name for the Palm Springs area was "sek-hi" which means "boiling water". The name "Agua Caliente" is the Spanish version meaning "hot water". Cahuilla is derived from the people's own name for themselves and means "masters" or "powerful ones".
The early Agua Caliente Indians were industrious and creative with a reputation for independence, integrity, and peace. They believed this productive land of their ancestors would always be theirs, but in the 1860's the U.S.Federal Government gave ten miles of the odd-numbered sections of land to the Southern California Railroad to induce them to build through the area. In1876 the Agua Caliente were deeded 32,000 acres of the even-numbered sections in trust as the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation. As with all federally-recognized tribes, the Agua Caliente have the legal rights of a sovereign nation.
Today about 6,700 acres of the reservation lie within the city limits of Palm Springs. The remaining sections extend out across the desert and mountains in a checkerboard pattern.
In recent history, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has been known for its impact on current politics and land use. In the 1950's the first all-woman tribal council in the United States lobbied Congress for progressive legislation, including land lease rights in order to promote economic development. The Agua Caliente look forward to the future and an active role in the community.

Palm Springs Airport

This is the view coming down the escalator from the little shopping/eating area of the airport.

I love the mountains in the background to this shot

It is a faily new airport building, light, modern and airy.
