Lauterbrunnen Travel Guide: 262 reviews and 779 photos
On our day trip to the Bernese Oberland, our guide stopped at Lauterbrunnen primarily for us to see the waterfalls, but my eye caught this lovely hotel with spectacular floral window boxes and as a keen gardner, just had to capture it on film.
Lauterbrunnen lies in a glaciated u shape valle between gigantic rock walls. 72 waterfalls plummet over the walls and into the valley. The Staubbach fall is the highest free-falling waterfall. At 300m high, the highest in Switzerland.
In summer there are footpaths and mountain bike routes to discover. In winter there are snow sport regions near, i.e. Murren - Schilthorn.
One of the longest ski runs leads from the Schilthorn down to Lauterbrunnen, a descent of over 2000 metres.
There is a cross country track - about 16km
