On our "Highlights of Malta " tour, we visited the three cities. Vittoriosa is one of them. (It was once called Birgu)
Vittoriosa was the least damaged of the Three Cities, and is not noted for tourists, having no restaurants, few cafe's, tiny local shops to serve the neighbourhood.
The picture shows the entrance through to the Maritime Museum. The museum building used to house the Naval Bakery. (a fellow tourist on our tour bus, told us when stationed here, he used to go to the Bakery to buy his bread. He was so pleased to be able to see this building and the Freedom Statue, he said it made his visit to Malta special.)
Unfortunately for us, we were on a bus tour, with no time to visit. Just enough time to take a photograph of the Freedom Statue to the right of this picture. (see must see tips).
A visit to the Maritime Museum is on our list of planned visits for the future.
The museum is open summer daily 7.45 a.m. - 2 p.m. , winter - Mon - Sat 8.15 a.m. - 5pm. and Sun 8.15 a.m. - 4.15 p.m. |
