My visit a long time ago - and a revisit in 2008 | Salzburg from the Fortress 1970 |
Our European visits were mostly in the late 60's and 70's, and all photographs were taken on 35mm slides, so the quality of the photographs is understandably poor.
However I have been in the loft, and uncovered boxes and boxes of slides, and now that I have a new scanner that can scan slide, and negatives, I thought I would put some photographs on my pages.
All of our European trips were camping/driving , except for once when we went to Gothenburg for the World Speedway Final in l966, then we stayed in hotels.
Our holidays then were mostly spent at home when the children came along, then in 1985 spread our wings for long haul destinations.
Undoubtadely there will have been enormous changes since these early photographs were taken, but maybe for those of you who have visited these parts long ago, or even those of you who live in the regions, it will be a trip down memory lane for you, just as it is for me posting these reminders.
My revisit to Salzburg was on an Austrian Lakes Tour in June 2008. So did I remember the city or not? You bet I did. The Mirabel Gardens were just as pretty and colourful, the Hohensalzburg castle overlooking the city and the river were just as I remembered., The city streets, some narrow, always inviting for window shopping were obviously updated, but the quaint signs hanging over the shops were still there. Yes it was great to be back in Salzburg, and this time we took a a guided tour (for our group) and the tour guide showed us even more of the city than we visited before. Down one alley, up through another, and of course pointing out where some of the filming of the Sound of Music was done. |
