"Wellington - The Capitol" Wellington by joanj

Following our tour of the North Island, we spent a few days in Wellington (where I met a friend of my friends from Napier - are you with me so far !?).

Have to tell you this co-incidence, the Welligton lady lived in Highworth and emigrated over 40 years ago to N.Z.

I really liked my few days in Wellington, and visited quite a few places, but then took the InterIslander Ferry to Picton, to tour the South Island.

I must say the trip back from Christchurch to Wellington by a little "prop job" - propeller -aeroplane - was rather hairy coming to land in Windy Wellington
.
On this particular trip of ours we had 12 flights all told, including the flight from U.K. & return. !

The Beehive

This picture is of the Cabinet Offices in Wellington, and is known as the Beehive. It is where Politicians and top public officials etc., buzz around !!!!

The dome is made of copper.

It was built in the late 1970's.

Lambton Quay

$s4This is a view along Lambton Quay , there is good shopping along here, and also just off to the left up a little alleyway is the entrance to the Funicular Railway (Cable Car) that takes you up to Kelburn and the beautiful Botanical Gardens.

From up there, there is a wonderful view of Wellington.
