"Gold Coast - what I imagined!" Gold Coast by joanj

When I knew I was going to the Gold Coast region, this is how I imagined it to be , miles and miles of golden sand, and that is what I saw. The beaches along this stretch are so wide. There is 35km stretch of beach between Surfers Paradise and the New South Wales border.

We did not swim in the sea, as it was a little cool at this time of the year, wusses I know, but I do like warm sea water (i.e. Caribbean).
Never-the-less there were a few surfers, and we did just dip our toes in.! wow.
This was around Mermaid Beach/Broadbeach area.

We hit the beaches on our Caribbean travels, so really only walked the beach for a little exercise, the main activities were sightseeing tours, to see the hinterland, andgetting around on the local buses.
The bus ran right down to the border of NSW and was very efficient and frequent.

We often took the bus to Burleigh Heads, just to walk around and admire the scenery. Then a little further on to Tweed Heads, where we just walked across the "border" to Coolongatta.

We all know Surfers Paradise is very touristy, but there are some lovely spots to enjoy, especially the lovely and numerous parks.

I could not get over all the picnic areas, free BBQ's, and on some BBQ's even hot water!.
