Rothenburg ob der Tauber ......
This once "free imperial city" is known over the world and ranks among
Germany`s most frequented towns. It lies on a plateau at the intersection
of the so-called "Romantic Road" and the "Castle Road".
Below the town flows the Tauber River in its 180 ft deep valley and this is
the reason why the town has the additional "ob" or "above" the Tauber.

As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it
comes from the German words "Rot" (Red)
and "Burg" (burg, the medieval stronghold),
referring to the red color of the roofs of the
houses which overlook the river ......

We found that while in Rothenburg there
are a number of activities one could do.
At night there is a walk around the old city
guided by a Nightwatchman (Nachtwaechter)
dressed in a historical costume that gives
historical background on the city.
Rothenburg is also a great city to explore
by yourself as well. Anyone can walk the length
of the wall or climb the highest guard tower
where there is a great view and a small museum.
Another interesting activity in Rothenburg is visiting
the Criminal Museum (Kriminalmuseum) in the city.
Here they have ancient artifacts from the middle ages
that were used for punishment and torturing.
This museum also gives some other historical facts
about the city as well. In Rothenburg there are also many
shops that specialize in selling first rate Christmas goods
and many classic German bakeries ......
