Berlin, Ohio and Holmes County

If you visit the state of Ohio, I think that it would be a shame if you missed the Amish Country, especially Holmes County and the town of Berlin. Why? Because Berlin is the "heart of the world's largest Amish area"; it's where you can find home style Amish cooking; where you can step back in time, slow down, enjoy the rolling hills of the area, appreciate the Amish horse and buggies (even though they slow traffic to a crawl), stand in awe at the quality of the Amish handcrafted furniture, shop for lovely Amish quilts, or just learn about a different culture.

Here in this beautiful area, you can learn about both the Mennonite and Amish religions at the Mennonite Heritage Center; you will be able to see the beautiful Victorian House Museum in Millersburg; you can experience the unique hardware store called Lehman's in Kidron; you will be able to visit a genuine Amish house and farm at Yoder's between Trail and Walnut Creek; and you'll have an opportunity to buy delicious cheese at Guggisberg Cheese Factory in Millersburg, Ohio

And, that's just a small part of what is available in this incredible part of Ohio called Holmes County.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful rolling countyside, delicious food, friendly people
  • In a nutshell:An amazing busy little town in the heart of Amish Country.

I didn't know about this Berlin in the USA. Enjoyed visiting it through your page. I'd love to visit an Amish community. I am afraid I wouldn't "control" myself on those shops!

Such a charming contrast to cosmopolitan German Berlin! I read with fascination your descriptions of the Amish sights and culture :-)

The Amish country is so delightful Dee! The Amish folks are special people with wonderful misunderstood value. It's nice to see such a lovely page that honors them. Great page!

Comprehensive pages about mennonites, Amish, quilts, architecture, and history. You and Jill travel so well together.
