Richmond, Indiana: Echoes of the Past...

We added two days to our trip to Ohio and traveled via Indiana so that we could stop in Wayne County and the town of Richmond, Indiana. Jill needed information for her geneology research, and we are both glad that we decided to extend our time.

Richmond, Indiana, has much to offer those of us who love history (especially the Civil War), architecture (especially historic districts), and music (especially Jazz Heritage). Well, Richmond has all that and more.

As a bonus, we were fortunate to stay in a beautiful Victorian Bed and Breakfast right in town. It's true, as we visited this lovely area, we could hear echoes of the past, of the Historic National Road, the Gennett Record Company, the Courthouse Battle, and runaway slaves hid at the Levi Coffin House

The historical buildings are wonderful. The victorian houses are gorgeous. The museums are also right up my alley and the murals are another wonderful attractions. Excellent page Dee!

Following the historic trails is always rewarding. I would think fairly rare to see Federal era homes in Indiana. The things I don't know about....

Yet again you have immersed me in a corner of the US I hadn't heard of and have added so much to my knowledge of the history of your country. The National Road sounds fascinating and even more so the Coffin house :-)

Great info and pictures of historical and interesting town - added to my future destinations :-). That Wayne County Courthouse looks very similar to the Old Town Hall in another Richmond, in Virginia.

Fascinatingly detailed tips, as always! This sounds like a very interesting area to visit -- too bad it is accessible only by automobile.
