Europe's Dynamic City | The Quire of St. Paul's Cathedral |
I WAS A VISITOR TO LONDON LONG BEFORE I JOINED VT. THAT'S WHY I HAVE VERY FEW PHOTOGRAPHS. PLUS, I DID NOT HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS. AS IF THAT WERE NOT BAD ENOUGH. IN ALL THE SCANNING, ETC. SOME OF THE ONES I HAD ARE NOW GONE. SO SORRY.
The thing that I noticed first and foremost about London was its size. It is Europe's largest capital, and it covers about 600 square miles. I had no idea that it was so large (7,000,000 people) and so diverse.
Secondly, I was much confused by London's complex layout. Fortunately, the underground (tube) and bus network combine to make for easy maneuvering within this sprawling metropolis. But, it's also fun to just wander on foot, even though I realized I would get lost. Some of my finest adventures came when I was lost!
London is a gritty city, but its vitality, energy, and creativity make it one of the most dynamic of the European cities I've visited.
Because of its size, I certainly could not even "scratch the surface" of its history, its monuments, its architecture, its theatres, and its incredible shoppes during my one-week adventure. |
Off To a Slow Start I was visiting my daughter Jill who was living in London at that time. I left the day after Christmas and stayed for one week. As it was my first visit to England, I was really psyched for the trip.
When I arrived at Heathrow Airport, I expected to see Jill there waiting for me as we had planned. I certainly had an opportunity to view Heathrow and the multitudes of passengers who pass through this hub of transportation.
Two hours later, Jill arrived! For a few moments, I was wondering what I would do since Jill did not have a phone, and I knew not a soul in London. It was a bit unnerving and a slow start ; however, the remainder of the visit was filled with exciting adventures. |

Hope we can fit it all in! |
