Getting TO/AROUND: Although most of the traveling in Venice is best done on foot, public transportation via the vaporetti (waterbuses) are helpful if you are tired or have a long distance to travel or wish to travel to one of the islands.

These vaporetti are diesel-run motor boats and are in constant motion up and down the Grand Canal. To wait for the vaporetto of your choice, you go to Stop and there is a floating, covered platform. You meet many locals just as you do at a bus stop.

We usually took the No. l boat, the slow route, because it provided the best views and was slow enough for us to take pictures with ease
    .
Because we stayed four nights, we purchased a three-day pass. You may buy individual tickets, 12 hour, 24 hour, 72 hour tickets. In addition, you may wish to buy 3-,5-, or 7-day tickets or month long tickets.

These vaporetti run every ten to twenty minutes until early evening when they run less often.
The landing stage (floating raft) has the name clearly marked on a yellow board.

One day, we were on the vaporetto which was stopping at the"Ca'd'Oro" stop. From the boat, we made eye contact with a little girl who was waiting for a different boat. When I took out my camera and pointed it toward her, she moved as close to the glass as possible and smiled. Everyone around her and around us were smiling also. It was a delightful moment and one of many fond memories of Venice.

Well, you two certainly had a good time in Venice. So nice that you could stay three nights and really explore. The dance was so romantic. Beautiful pictures.
